Alex and I went to see the Pantheon
We learnt the hole in the roof of the Pantheon is called the eye of the Pantheon ( or the oculus) and it is the only source of light into the Pantheon. Its purpose is so when people pray the prayers go directly to the heavens. However, due to rain the night before there was some water on the floor. We had a 1 hour session but ended up leaving earlier anyway, but was very beautiful and worth the visit.

Sophie is another au pair in Rome and she is from Canada, Sophie is only here for 3 months as well like me. We found a local restaurant that had €10 pastas and we enjoyed our Carbonara, however we were talking too much and after about 30 mins of chatting and eating and 5 visits from staff asking if we were finished they eventually just took the food away from us. So we learnt for next time, eat first, talk later.

Alex and I met bright and early for our 6am bus to Pompeii. It was a 3 hour journey but all 30 passengers seemed to sleep the way there. It was very very hot and we were a bit underprepared but opted to doing our own self guided tour instead of going with a group. We made up most of our own information and history as we went, but I do believe a group of Americans passing by overheard and believed what we were saying.
We saw casts and read stories about the events and lasts moments people had before the incident occurred and it was more confronting and emotional than both of us had expected but was truly an amazing experience.
We then ended the afternoon with a three course lunch including pizza, fruit bowls and gelato with live music playing behind us as we had three hours to kill before the bus home arrived. We didn’t end up getting home till after 8pm so was a long day…but that didn’t stop us from going out that night as well.
Sounds like lots of fun and history tucked in there too. Love that you made up your own historical stories… can’t wait to hear them!
